Joseph Ottto Grandone 41, of 188 Broad Street, Barre, died on Friday, June 4, 2004 from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. He leaves his wife of 17 yrs., Amy A. (Jefferson) Grandone, one daughter Emily Ann Grandone, his parents Roy & Roberta (Maki) Grandone of Barre, his maternal grandmother Olive L. Maki of Sterling, an aunt Justina Lachapelle of Leicester, and an uncle Emmet Grandone of Sterling and many good friends.

Born on October 26, 1962 in Worcester he became interested in music in elementary school. During Jr. High he was chosen for Central District Band and Quabbin Valley Band. While in Quabbin Regional High School he was chosen for Central District Band and Orchestra, All State Band and Orchestra, and Quabbin Valley Band. While in grades 6-12 he was a member of the Barre Community Band with which he traveled to Harlem, Holland. He was elected first trombone in his junior and senior years in Mass All State. He also played trombone with CYC band in Worcester and the Mass Youth Wind Ensemble at New England Conservatory. He traveled with the Ensemble to England, Belgium, Greece and Rhodes. He was also a member of the National Honors Band in Grade 12. He graduated with honors from Quabbin Regional High School in 1980. He attended UNLV on a music scholarship and played in the marching band. While there he performed with the Las Vegas Symphony. He graduated from the College of Performing Arts in Philadelphia in 1984 with honors. During college he played with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduation he returned to his hometown of Barre, MA. He was employed by the Sheraton Tara and later by PaperWorld in Worcester. Music remained an important part of his life. He and his wife Amy formed the group "Just One More" which became popular in Barre and its areas. More recently he has played with the Concord Symphony Orchestra and has accompanied many music students at recitals. He was a teacher of private students at Quabbin Regional H.S., Wachuset Regional H.S., and Packachoag School in Auburn.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Parish Unitarian Church on the Common, Hubbardston MA. Calling hours will be held at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 South Barre Rd., Barre on Tuesday, June 8 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Flowers may be sent or donations made in Joseph's honor to Joseph Grandone Musical Education Scholarship Fund c/o Barre Savings Bank, P.O. Box 940 Barre MA 01005.
